Many of the programs delivered on Chehaw’s grounds can be presented at another location. The programs are designed to enhance teacher’s curricula by presenting the material with hands-on animal and biofact encounters. All Programs are based around Georgia’s state learning standards (GPS), therefore are easily incorporated into teacher’s curricula. Many of the programs easily fit into the curricula for multiple grade levels and are presented in a manner that is appropriate for your classes’ age, grade level, and GPS. Animal ABC's
This program is an introduction to animals and their basic needs as a living organism. Children will use their five senses to compare and contrast different types of animals and their life cycles. This Program is recommended for:
- K: SKCS1, SKCS2, SKL1, SKL2 & SKP1
- 1st Grade: S1CS1, S1CS5, & S1L1
- 2nd Grade: S2CS1, S2CS5, & S2L1

Nocturnal Animals
Students will learn about the animals that come out at night. We will discuss the reasons some animals are nocturnal and the adaptations they use to help them survive. We will also compare nocturnal animals with their diurnal counterparts. This program is recommended for:

Georgia Woods
This program focuses on the many diverse animals native to Georgia and how humans have impacted them. Students will learn about animals’ habitats and the adaptations they use for survival. This program is recommended for:

Vertebrate Comparison
During this program we will discuss differences in the anatomy and reproduction of invertebrates and vertebrates. The primary goal of this program is to allow students to compare and contrast the five main groups of vertebrates (fish, amphibians, reptiles, mammals, and birds). This program is recommended for:
- 5th: S5CS1, S5CL1 & S5L2

Food Chain
This program examines the flow of energy through an ecosystem. Students will compare the different methods plants and animals use to obtain energy, what different animals eat (including predator/prey relationships), and the connection between animals and their environment. We will also explore how the predator/prey relationships and animal adaptations contribute to natural selection and gene flow. This program is recommended for:
- 4th: S4CS1, S4CS4, S4L1 & S4L2
- 6th: S6CS1 & S6E6

Man vs. Nature
As the human population grows, humans have a larger effect on the earth and in turn the earth has a larger effect on society. This program focuses on three major environmental issues (1) invasive species and their effect on local ecosystems, (2) how humans are controlling pest species populations, and (3) the effect humans have on the earth (like pollution, extinction, and spread of disease). This program is recommended for:
- 4th: S4CS1, S4L1 & S4L2
- 7th: S7CS1 & S7L4
- H.S. Biology: SCSh1, SEV3 & SEV5
- H.S. En. Science: SCSh1, SEV1, SEV2 & SEV5

GNATS Overnight Program
Good Nights At The Swamp (GNATS) gives children the chance to do things they never thought possible like SPENDING THE NIGHT IN THE ZOO! When the lights go out, Chehaw comes to life. We start the evening by taking a night hike around the zoo. After seeing some of Chehaw’s native night time creatures, you will get the opportunity to meet some nocturnal animals during hands-on animal encounters. We conclude the evening fireside with stories and smores. In the morning you will wake to an energizing breakfast, and then we go to the zoo where you get to help the zoo keepers “wake” the animals in an exclusive behind the scenes tour! This program is perfect for schools, scout troops, birthday parties, and any group looking for some fun! Not only is this program fun, but it is based around the GPS, so it easy to incorporate into any teacher’s curricula. We have two themes: nocturnal animals and endangered species. This program is only $35 per participant with a minimum of 15 participants. Please see the registration sheet for pricing and more information. This program is recommended for grades:

Pets vs. Wild Animals
Animals can be so wonderful and amazing, but not all animals make great pets. There are reasons we don’t all have lions, monkeys, or raccoons at home. Students will learn the reasons that some animals make great pets and why other animals are best left in the wild. This program is recommended for:
- K: SKCS1 & SKL2
- 1st: S1CS1, S1CS5, S1L1
Animals around the World
People of all ages enjoy learning from hands-on animal interactions. This program is perfect for any group, young or young at heart. Book this program for the opportunity to learn about the amazing things animals do!

Homeschool Science:
Chehaw offers a unique opportunity for children educated through homeschool programs. With so many great resources like the park, over 400 acres of pristine wild acres, and the zoo, there are too many wonderful educational opportunities not to share! This year Chehaw will offer one science class per month (except December). We will offer two programs, one geared for smaller children ages 5- 8 from 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM on the designated date. A second class geared toward children ages 8-13 will be offered from 1:30- 3 PM on the designated date. Classes will be $5 per student with a maximum of 20 students allowed per class.

Park Programs:
Groups may schedule a presentation between the hours of
9:30 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday - Saturday. Park Programs will take place in the Hoots and Scutes Amphitheater and are $50 per program (for up 100 people); this price does not include park and zoo admission. Our amphitheater seats approximately 100 people. See the registration sheet for booking and pricing information. The available programs are listed below.
